My first Sapporo Ramen!

On Thursday, after work (9pm, that was),
my boss took two of us girls to a ramen restaurant,
where we proved that our stomach was barely bigger than a ramen bowl.

Now I’m well prepared to go home for the New Year
and face ‘…and have you tried Sapporo Ramen?’ from everybody :))



初・札幌ラーメン!

木曜日の仕事帰り、夜9時。
上司が私ともう一人女の子をラーメン屋に連れてってくれたのだｖ
私の胃袋はラーメンどんぶりより辛うじて大きいことが判明。

これで、お正月に里帰りして
みんなに「…ところで札幌ラーメン食べた？」って聞かれても大丈夫！

At the Munich Christmas Fair, all the plates and cups were ‘returnable,’
following the eco-friendly sprit from Germany.
I joined the volunteer team to wash all the plates sparkling clean.
In fact we just had to rinse them first and stuck them away at last
while the dishwasher and pasteurizer did an awesome job for us.

The Fair ended on 16th Dec (I heard the last day was ultra-busy!).
We volunteers were invited to a ‘farewell party’ on 17th.
The happy party strongly encouraged my wondering
who was to receive the farewell.

After the party some guys and girls beckoned me to karaoke!
It’d been a century since my hand was holding a mike!
Half the company was guys from Germany
who volunteered at the Fair in a Santa Clause suit.
And… imagine those Santa Clauses singing beautiful ‘enka’!
Enka is Japanese classic ballad, and, I tell you,
the young Japanese never sing enka more often than German songs!
The fun night went on till we were one step away from missing the last subway…









ミュンヘン・クリスマス市では、ドイツのエコ精神に前ならえで
再使用できるお皿やカップを使ってた。
私も皿洗い隊の一員として、食器を生き返らせるお手伝いしました！
といっても最初にお皿をすすいだり最後に重ねて片付けるくらいで、
あとは食器洗い機と殺菌装置が健気に頑張ってくれたのでした。

クリスマス市は16日で終了。（最終日はなまら忙しかったらしい…）
ボランティアは17日のフェアウェルパーティに招待されたのだｖ
パーティは楽しくて、最後まで私の心に残ったのは
いったい誰のフェアウェル（＝さよなら）パーティだったのか…

パーティの後、同年代くらいの子たちがカラオケに誘ってくれた！
マイクを握ったのは1世紀ぶりなんですけど！
一行の半分はドイツ人の男の子たち。
サンタの格好でボランティアしてくれてたみなさん。
で…　そのサンタさんたちの十八番は、演歌。
演歌は日本のクラシック音楽だけど、いやいや、
日本の若者が演歌歌うなんて、ドイツ語の歌より無いって！
楽しい夜は、最終の地下鉄を逃す一歩手前まで続いたのであった…

Munich Christmas Festival opened up on 22nd November.
This big annual event was born in 2002.
It’s been 35 years since Munich joined the sister cities of Sapporo.

There is a greenbelt (Oh-dori) lying at the very centre of CBD.
People come here to stroll along, to spread papers, to have lunch,
or to sit and play the guitar with friends on a sunny weekend.
Monuments and fountains and an open-air stage sit along the park.
Soaring at the end of the belt is the famous ‘Dad the TV Tower’.

The trees are all dressed in twinkling lights,
and figures of flowers and Christmas trees sparkle in the middle.
Someone plays music, with the lights flickering in synchronism.
The air bites your fingers every time you snap out a scene.

The busiest section is near the Clock Tower,
where bright stalls beckon you.
Christmas ornaments, dolls, greeting cards, souvenir mug,
cookies, nuts, sausages and hot, spicy red wine.
People huddle in a little hut to appreciate the little stove.

By the time I got home…
My poor toes almost caught frostbite.
I took a good bath to thaw my toes…

    

11月22日、ミュンヘン・クリスマス市が幕を開けました。
2002年に誕生して毎年行われているこのイベント。
ミュンヘンが札幌の姉妹都市になって、今年で35年。

札幌の中心部のど真ん中に大通公園がある。
散歩をする人、新聞を広げる人、お昼を楽しむ人、
そして晴れた週末には、仲間と集ってギターを弾く人。
彫刻や噴水や野外ステージが連なる通り。
端にはかの有名なテレビ父さんが胸を張っている。

木という木はぴかぴかのライトをまとって、
真ん中には花やツリーをかたどった電飾。
エレクトーンの演奏にあわせて明滅する光。
風景を切り取るたび、指に突き刺さる空気。

一番にぎやかなのはテレビ塔のふもと。
明るい出店に誘われる。
クリスマス飾り、人形、カード、今年の記念マグカップ。
クッキー、ナッツ、ソーセージ、スパイシーなホットワイン。
小さな小屋の小さなストーブが身にしみてありがたい。

家に帰り着いた頃には、つま先がしもやけ寸前だった。
あったか〜いお風呂で解凍しましたｖ

On the day my mum came, we had a SNOW attack.
That was the beginning of the long long winter…

Notwithstanding the white stuff,
Mum, little Bro and me gathered in the place Mum longed for:
Sapporo Beer Garden.

The red brick building looked superb in the snow…

Inside, it’s a smotheringly smoky place.
A massive dining hall with whole bunch of people BBQing lamb.
And we too of course.
We stuffed ourselves with lamb and seafood and more lamb
and drained it with three jugs of beer each.

Then marched our way back in the snow for half an hour.

The end.

母が札幌に来た日。
雪が降った。
それは長い長い冬の幕開けだった…

が、そんなモノはものともせず
母とオトウトと私の3人は、母の悲願の地へと向かった。
サッポロビール園。

赤レンガのその建物は、白い雪がよく似合う。

一歩中に入ると、すっごい煙でもわもわ。
巨大なホールに人間がぎっしり詰まってラム肉を焼いている。
もちろん私たちも右に同じ。
ハラに収まるラム。シーフード。さらにラム。
それを流し込むのにビール。ジョッキ3杯ずつ。

そして、雪の中を30分のしのし歩いて帰りましたとさ。

おしまい。

This evening, I was wondering of cooking dinner,
when there came
oooooooOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

A fire vehicle!

I checked on the web ‘Emergency Flash’ …where's the fire?
It said ‘Higashi-ward, North O, East X’

God, it’s right here!!!!!

Sure the vehicle pulled off on the street
one building away from my apartment house.
I could see the red light through the glass window,
which was nicely frozen and stuck.

S—t!!!

So I couldn’t see where exactly the hustle was about,
and the red light disappeared 10 min later.

This is when everyone uses a heater.
Please please be careful…


夕方、そろそろゴハン作ろうかと思っていたら
窓の外から聞こえてきた
ぅーぅーぅーうーうーうーうーうー!!!!!

消防車!

インターネットで「緊急速報」見てみたら
「火災出動、東区北○条東Ｘ丁目」

って ここじゃん!!!!!

消防車が止まったのは、私のアパートから
建物ひとつ隔てた通り。
窓ガラス越しに赤いライトがぴかぴかしている。
そして素敵に凍りついて開かない窓。

なんでまたこんなときに…

というわけで、結局どこで火事があったんだか
よくわからなかったのだけど、
赤いライトも10分後には消えていた。

今、みんなストーブつける時期だよね。
くれぐれもご注意くださーい!!!
